Betta Fish Tank Aggression

Most aggression in the aquarium happens over an area. Many species swim wherever they want and are fancy-free.Betta fishes go where the current takes them; but others like to stake a claim to a certain area and call it home. Their territory provides a safe place to rest, hide or breed. The spot they claim may be the area surrounding a piece of driftwood or a corner of the aquarium. It might be a cave or large rock or an overhang of floating aquatic plants. Whatever spot Betta fish choose, the betta will allow some others to enter that area and punish others for coming too close.

Best Bettat Fish

In the mission for ideal water conditions with negligible mantainence, a few specialists utilize complex and no uncertainty costly channels. I accept that the long blades and tails of extravagant bettas will hinder them and be inclined to destroying within the sight of a water momentum. Since most channel frameworks are focused on water developments, the expansion of such channels may not neccessary be something worth being thankful for. The other significant capacity that channels perform is air circulation. Notwithstanding, bettas are maze fishes, which means they need to go to the surface to enhance their air consumption. They really need next to no disintegrated oxygen in the water and makes the channel excess where air circulation is concerned. The specialist however should ensure that the tank has an opening for the betta to relax.

Colored Halfmoon Betta Fish

The brilliant coloration and long flowing fins of the male betta make it one of the most well known of aquarium fish. Females are usually not as highly colored and have much shorter fins. In nature, this species is not usually brightly colored.

However, captive breeding programs have resulted in a wide variety of colors, including white, yellow, orange, red, pink, blue, green, turquoise, brown, and black. A myriad of combinations can be seen, from solid colors to those with different fin and body colors, to patterned colors. Fin types have also changed due to selective breeding. Veil tails have been joined by crown tails, deltas, fans, half moons, lyre, and split tails, to name a few.

Both sexes have a torpedo-shaped body and an upturned mouth geared for eating at the surface. Mature adults reach a size of two to three inches, with females being slightly smaller than the males. A unique feature of this species is the presence of a labyrinth organ that allows them to take oxygen from the atmosphere instead of from water, thus allowing them to survive in low-oxygen pools.

Betta Fish Splenden

Betta Fish, Halfmoon betta Fish, golden betta fish

Betta is the first recorded domestication of this species dates back to 1893 and a common name of a genus of labyrinth fish, so classified because of its labyrintine chamber above the gills which enables it to breathe air. We have twelve species of bettas fish occur in swamps and other lowland freshwaters of southeast asia. Although the american and european society realise these fishes as pets only in the 1920s. The initial domestication period of betta splenden are focused mainly on their fighting ability since bettas often fight to the death in the confinement of capitivity.

The most famous of the betta family is arguably betta splenden, aka Siamese fighting fish. Betta splenden can easily grow up to 75 mm. This aggressive trait is a throwback to their wild habits where to develop further under his guard. Their male fights to defend territory. He builds a nest of bubbles at the surface among aquatic vegetation. After courtship, the betta fish gathers the fertilised eggs into the mouth and spits them into the nest.

Betta Fish Tank Mate

Place the betta fish male in a tank with about 15 cm deep water and a place for him to build his nest. Some breeders use floating plants to help the male anchor his nest. I artificially create the anchor point by cutting a party cup into half (from top to bottom) and then taping the half cup to the edge of the tank. Most of the time, the betta fish male will build his nest in the sanctuary of this cup. The cup will help shelter the nest from drafts and other water disturbances. Any water agitation at this stage could be detrimental to the male's efforts to build a coherent nest.
