Betta Fish Tank Mate

Place the betta fish male in a tank with about 15 cm deep water and a place for him to build his nest. Some breeders use floating plants to help the male anchor his nest. I artificially create the anchor point by cutting a party cup into half (from top to bottom) and then taping the half cup to the edge of the tank. Most of the time, the betta fish male will build his nest in the sanctuary of this cup. The cup will help shelter the nest from drafts and other water disturbances. Any water agitation at this stage could be detrimental to the male's efforts to build a coherent nest.

Betta Fish Love Affair

The next phase is to introduce the female betta fish to the male. I always do a indirect introduction first by placing the female in a jar and then put the jar in the breeding tank. The jar is normally only half filled having high walls that prevent either fish from jumping in or out, and at the same time, the female has no problems reaching the surface for air. This indirect introduction may take place concurrently with the male Betta fish building the nest. Depending on the fishes, the sight of a female can either spurs the male into building a nest faster, or simply just distract him from his job, so the breeder has to react accordingly. 

When the female betta fish shows that she subverts to the male, by showing very distinct vertical stripes/bars and at times a drooping head, it is time to physically introduce her to the breeding tank. It does not matter how dark of colourful the female is before mating session, her strips will be very visible. There may be identification problems when it comes to light bodied fishes though.

After the common goldfish, betta fish, commonly referred to as Siamese fighting fish, are one of the most popular fish breeds purchased by budding freshwater fish hobbyists. Commonly sold in pet shops alongside small "betta bowls," these beautiful fish actually require more space than one might expect. Selling a betta in a vase with a plant has become a popular sales technique. However, a flower vase is not a suitable environment for the betta. 

The first recorded domestication of this species dates back to 1893 although the american and european society realise these fishes as pets only in the 1920s. The initial domestication period of betta splenden are focused mainly on their fighting ability since bettas often fight to the death in the confinement of capitivity. This aggressive trait is a throwback to their wild habits where the male fights to defend territory. He builds a nest of bubbles at the surface among aquatic vegetation. After courtship, the fish gathers the fertilised eggs into the mouth and spits them into the nest to develop further under his guard. 

Some aquarium hobbyists later breed the betta splenden for fancy display. The fish was allowed to develop long and big fins along with striking colours. The fancy betta splenden today boasts of wide fins, the widest caudal fin I know of is a massive 220o. The fish also come in many colours such as yellow, red, black, blue, green and purple.

My most beautiful bettafish

A breeding pair is selected. The pair has to be conditioned to full spawning capability. This means a period of multiple feedings a day, preferably with live food. With proper care, most females Betta fish should be ready within 3 weeks. The keyword here is patience, patience and more patience. I have seen too many cases of the over enthusiatic aquarist introduce the intended breeding pair to each other before either is ready. The end result is almost always an aborted spawning attempt and two injured fishes. 

The female Betta fish at the time of mating should ideally be swollen with eggs. Swollen as in she appears to be bursting from eggs. The more accomplished breeder can probably make do with less ready females. I have read that black water extract helps to spur them into breeding mood, but personally never needed to do that. There are cases where the intended breeding female is bigger than the male. Such pairing should be avoided if possible as the male Betta fish may find it difficult to position himself for a complete "wrap" of the female. This in turn may reduce the chances of the eggs being fertilized.

我們來看看這些可愛的台灣鬥魚。它們現在是交配時間而且又是生蛋的時間喔！^^

所以我們來看看它的蛋，看是什麼樣子。看到沒？這就是它的蛋它的蛋是公的在照顧的所以脾氣會很壞的喔。但是我怕它等下會把小蛋給吃掉的，所以我把它撈起來，放在一個安全的地方。請看我把它撈起來。。放在一個安全的地方。這邊也有喔。哇！好多好多小蛋蛋。小蛋蛋，小蛋蛋。。好可愛的小蛋蛋喔。把它撈起來放在這個盤子裡面，它就會變成一個小魚兒出來喔。




哇！這個是一個禮拜的魚喔！他們長大這個樣子很可愛吧。非常的可愛。裡面有比較特殊的，就是，它們可能是公的，會長得比較快一點。躲起來了！躲在那個地方，哎呀，來了來了有沒有看到呢？一支特別大的魚。。這是公的。看到沒，在哪裡在哪裡在哪裡喔！嗯嗯嗯，好多小寶貝，看到沒 ^^


這些太陽下的魚非常的健康因為它們是差不多一個月到兩個月大。有的比較大是兩個月了。一個是一個。。。小一點是一個月。它們是非常健康健康的魚。你看它們吧。不錯吧？它們非常的健康。。而且在尋找食物吃呢。丟一點很細很細的食物吃。他們很愛吃飼料。所以它們盡量享受食物的。哇！他們活得好快樂喔！你看！什麼都有水草，慧蓮，石頭給他們成為一個非常自然的家庭。。很棒喔！


這個光線的關係看起來不是非常的清楚，但是這些魚有七八個月了。也算成長的非常好了。外表呢，就看起來像一年以上了，還是快兩年的那種感覺。跟兩年是差不多一樣的。我這個兩年的魚跟這個一年的魚還是半年的魚都是分開養的。所以他們後代呢，養在另一外個鍋。我這是養成他們那種後代後代基因蠻好的。例如說你看，看它們的尾巴，非常的長。看到了沒？這支。。哇！它們又在生蛋喔。它們的泡沫就是蛋。這邊有一支很小的baby （03:58) 好奇怪，不曉得為什麼它這麼小活在這個世界！哇！這麼小呢！跟大的在一起。怎麼出現的呢？因該是它們生的baby吃得只剩下這支啊！真是的。。。哎呀，我的天啊！這些爸爸媽媽都都忘記照顧還在還把它們都搞不見了。真是天才。。。我們在看一下這直。。這都是我七八個月的魚，非常的健康。非常非常的健康喔！



哇！這個魚也是。。哇，你看它們。它們是我養的一年的多的魚。非常的健康而且那個公的好少，母的一群真多。它們都是關注踏腳不他們出來網我這邊來。你看它們有在聽聲音喔。。它們好聰明。現在是早上嗎，九點多十點了。但是我跟你。。我跟各位將喔講喔。。到了中午以後，它們會睡午覺的。很累很累的躺著。非常的可愛。它們現在最大的目標就是吃飼料！哇，大的跑出來了。公的。母的最多。都是。。。哇沒了。。那麼快！再給它們吃我怕它們太胖了！胖了就游不動了喔。



這些魚已經兩年了它們的壽命算非常的OK。它們有名字喔。有Mary，John，還有Handsome，Pretty，都有。因為它們。。。你看，Handsome跑過去了喔。旁邊那個是Pretty。左邊那個是Pretty，然後你看，Mary也在左邊喔。然後John也在左邊，它們都是兩年的老魚喔。非常的健康。而且他們的後代好多喔。它們留下來的後代非常多。你們喜歡嗎？如果你們非常的喜歡，可以送給你們喔！因為我們家現在有好幾百鰷魚，而且它們都是健康性的喔。一點也不會有小毛病的，非常的健康。所以如果想要可以告訴我喔，我可以不用錢的送給你們的，但是你們要跟我一樣，愛惜它們。
